Revised European Blue Card rules now in force

The Netherlands has introduced important changes to the European Blue Card scheme, making it more accessible to highly qualified professionals from outside the EU.

The main changes include:

In most professions, applicants can qualify through at least five years of relevant professional experience. For certain ICT managers and professionals, three years of experience within the previous seven years may be sufficient.

Unlike the Dutch highly skilled migrant scheme, the European Blue Card does not require the employer to be an IND-recognised sponsor. It can therefore be an attractive alternative for international companies hiring in the Netherlands.
