A1 form
The A1 form, also known as the Certificate of Coverage, is a document used within the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), and Switzerland to determine which social security legislation applies to an employee temporarily working in another EU country.
When an employee is sent by their employer to work in another EU/EEA member state or Switzerland, the A1 form serves as proof that the employee remains covered by their home country’s social security system for a limited period. It helps prevent double social security contributions and ensures that the individual receives social security benefits from their home country.
The A1 form is typically issued by the social security authorities in the country where the employee is based. It contains information about the employee, their employer, the duration of the assignment, and the applicable social security legislation.
The A1 form is crucial in facilitating the coordination of social security systems across borders, ensuring that employees’ social security rights are protected during temporary work assignments within the EU/EEA and Switzerland.
